More Maia

New York City born and raised, Maia Ciarapica has never known a world without noise—both the kind that fills the streets and the kind that lives inside an artist's mind. From the moment she could make sound, she immersed herself in music, spending her childhood in long theater rehearsals, vocal masterclasses, and any performance space that would have her. Her formal training deepened when she attended Frank Sinatra High School of the Arts, where she was introduced to the intensity and precision of classical music. While she appreciated its discipline, the rigidity quickly shifted from immersive to stifling, pushing her to seek freedom elsewhere.

Outside the classroom, Ciarapica’s personal music world was a constantly shifting landscape of folk intimacy, grunge grit, post-punk edge, and pop sensibility. Torn between these influences and feeling stuck in both a creative and personal rut, she turned to songwriting as a lifeline. It became an outlet that allowed her to merge her eclectic background with the stories she struggled to speak aloud. From this collision emerged her trademark sound: muddy, emotional chord progressions paired with sweet, cutting vocal melodies that linger long after they’re heard.

Pairing her deep understanding of the voice with unflinchingly vulnerable lyrics, Ciarapica is carving out a distinctive place for herself. Her work sits at the crossroads of introspective folk and raw alternative rock, shaped as much by the angst of ’90s grunge as by the storytelling of classic folk. She writes with a quiet ferocity—unfiltered, sharp, and tender in equal measure. Her songs explore identity, longing, memory, and the strange ache of growing into oneself, inviting listeners into worlds that are intimate, textured, and emotionally charged.

Now based in Boston while studying at Berklee College of Music, Ciarapica continues to grow as both an artist and human. She also writes weekly articles on her publication Talking Secret. You can likely find her drinking coffee, wearing big sunglasses, and going to hot yoga.
